My Home Town!

A few weeks ago we went for a Sunday drive and drove a few hours to go see where the "Wallow Fire" had burned and if my home town of Luna, New Mexico was still standing. Much to my relief and amazement it was all there. I have many memories in that small town. Those memories began as a small child growing up with all the space to run, practicing soccer at the Rodeo grounds, and enjoying the beauty around. We moved away from there when I was 15. My two little brother are buried there which that alone holds a special place in my heart. Now as an adult my little family enjoys a long weekend getaway up there, (it has become one of our most favorite places to be. There is so much of that area up there that was destroyed by the fire and it is sad to see such beauty gone. Here are just a few pictures of what we saw.

This is a meadow in Luna and that is elk out there that were run out of the forest by the fire. Crazy sight to see.

Blackened ground all around. Many trees were saved but the ground around was black.

A view from the road as we drove by.

Just another drive by shot.

This is a valley in the nearby town of Alpine, AZ where they had 5 helicopters parked getting ready for more firefighting, and then there were more elk out not far from the helicopters.

Sad to see so much destruction, but happy that my home town is still standing. We are looking forward to a couple of long weekends in the next couple of months.
